Twirl-A-Thon fundraiser will help baton twirling team travel to national competition

Maineacts TwirlathonBANGOR DAILY NEWS, Bangor — The Main-E-Act Baton Twirling Team will undertake a 24-hour Twirl-A-Thon from 7 p.m. Friday. March 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Bangor Parks and Recreation in an effort to raise funds for team travel to a national competitive event in 2017, as well as to revitalize and promote the sport of baton twirling in Maine. Local twirlers to represent Maine in Cherry Blossom Festival Parade

Twirlers040115-600x412THE WEEKLY, Bangor – The Main-E-Acts Baton Twirling Team has been selected to perform in the 2015 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on April 11 in Washington, D.C. The team was chosen to participate in the festival parade through a competitive application process. Selection criteria included state, regional and national competitive achievements and recognitions, performance history, and an audition video. The twirlers themselves helped prepare the application. KENNEBEC JOURNAL, Augusta – The Main-E-Acts Baton Twirling Team has been selected to perform in the 2015 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on Saturday, April 11 in Washington, D.C.

This will be the second performance by the Main-E-Acts in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. The last time the team made the trip (2009), the team’s now eldest members were the youngest to participate. Now seniors, these three ladies will pass along their experience and share in this opportunity with the next generation of twirlers. Read More

Main-E-Acts team chosen for Cherry Blossom Parade

9753240030PORTLAND PRESS HERALD, Portland – The Main-E-Acts Baton Twirling Team will once again perform in the 2015 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on April 11.

The team previously made the trip in 2009, when the team’s now three oldest members were among the youngest to take part.

Created in 2004 as the travel component squad of the Central Maine Twirling Corps, a larger baton program offered through the Augusta and Bangor parks and recreation departments, team members were selected for their outstanding abilities, as well as their teamwork, enthusiasm, commitment, dedication and passion for the sport of baton twirling. Main-E-Acts prepare for twirling Nationals

Main-E-Acts 2014 Team_Haltime Show Team_Lean on MeKENNEBEC JOURNAL/MORNING SENTINEL, Augusta — Competitive baton twirling has been a part of Megan Williams’ life for 16 years. She remembers being a student at Maranacook when her gym teacher told the class he would be using heart-rate monitors on them for the next half hour, and they could do whatever activity they wanted. While others played basketball, Williams asked if she could do twirling.

“He was hesitant, because he didn’t think it could get my heart rate up,” Williams said. “It was actually over the healthy rate the entire time.”

Williams and 12 other young women on the Main-E-Acts Baton Twirling Team are at the University of Notre Dame this week for the National Baton Twirling Association’s Grand National Baton Twirling Championships. Read More

 

Baton twirling a sport for life

“I fell in love with twirling and I wanted to give kids the same kind of opportunities that I had — and more,” she said of her decision to teach the sport. Read more

 

Maine twirling team takes talents to Nationals
