Public Health Policies

For the health, safety and protection of all our twirlers and twirling families, we approach our twirling season in accordance to the most recent state and national guidance.

SCREENING AND ATTENDANCE
SYMPTOM LIST AND SELF-SCREENERQUARANTINE AND ISOLATION GUIDANCE

All Central Maine Twirling Corps twirlers and coaches are asked to review the list of COVID-19 symptoms prior to class. Twirlers and coaches suspecting exposure or experiencing symptoms are asked to stay home. If a twirler does not attend school, he or she should stay home for twirling. If a twirler is experiencing a quarantine due to school exposure (close contact), school closure or travel, he or she should stay home. Attendance will be taken at each class. Absences must be communicated to coaches; unexplained absences will be assumed as illness.

FACE COVERINGS

All Central Maine Twirling Corps students and coaches participating in indoor instruction will follow masking policies set forth by the City of Bangor, Kennebec Valley YMCA and facilities visited for competitions and performances. When required or recommended, masks must be worn properly, covering both the nose and the mouth, and stay in place for the duration of twirling class, practice or performance. Masks are welcome, but not required, for outdoor instruction. (Reviewed August 2022)

SANITIZATION

Hands are sanitized after each class. Batons are also disinfected at the end of each class by a coach. Younger twirlers are not be permitted to use tape on batons. Older twirlers are encouraged to remove tape or change tape frequently.

CLASS LOGISTICS aND SCHEUDULING

Class sizes are limited. Class size limits consider level, age and space required for the most benefical instruction for the student.

Parents must drop off and pick up participants at designated doors or areas. Waiting in gyms or class spaces during class time is not permitted. Coaches will always be present for student welcome and dismissal.

Twirlers will arrive prepared, and not more than 15 minutes before their class is scheduled to begin. Safe transitions between classes are prioritized.

Note: Classes may be cancelled or adapted at any time for the protection and benefit of our twirlers and twirling families (including but not limited to exposure). Changes in the delivery of the program are at the discretion of the director and/or our local supporting organizations (Rec and YMCA).

ATTIRE, EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES

All students must bring their own baton to class, clearly labeled on the end with his or her name. Bags and additional supplies should be minimized.

All students must bring their own water bottle, clearly labeled with his or her name. Water sharing is not permitted.

Class attire is required for all students participating in Central Maine Twirling Corps classes this season. Twirlers must arrive to class in clean twirling class attire each week (school attire and street clothing is not permitted). Appropriate twirling class attire for recreation classes includes solid black leotards, solid black leggings, or any combination of form-fitting attire from our team store (see CURRENT MEMBERS). Twirling shoes or jazz shoes will be worn in gyms, twirling shoes or athletic sneakers (with minimal tread) may be worn for outdoor classes. Hair should always be in a proper bun (advanced) or tight ponytail (beginner).

PAPERLESS COMMUNICATION

All communication will be conducted via email and text alerts (when urgent). Regular class communication includes distribution of program policies, class memos, special event memos and order forms. Registration is completed online.

BEHAVIOR

Unnecessary physical contact, such as high fives, handshakes, fist bumps, or hugs, will not be encouraged in twirling classes during times of high community spread and viral illness.

The above guidelines are subject to revision at any time for the health and safety of our twirlers, coaches and twirling families. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
